I often receive questions about the best healthy food to eat so I thought I’d write a post and attempt to cover some amazing food ideas that make a good eat.

Firstly, there are a lot of factors making a food healthier than another. Providing a large variety of all the essential nutrients is probably the most important thing, but there are also particular nutrients that we want to target specifically because they often lack in modern diets. Fiber, healthy fatty acids, a variety of vitamins and minerals are all important but what about the taste?! You obviously have to enjoy the eating experience if you’re going to enjoy the food. Here’s a list of my favorites:

1. Tuna

Tuna is my go-to food and I always have my pantry stocked with plenty of it. Tuna is a high-protein food and full of essential fats. Although canned Tuna is convenient and cheap, it doesn’t always contain the same proportions of nutrients as fresh Tuna. Also, canned Tuna can contain other additives and preservatives. At the end of the day though, having a can of tuna for lunch is a far better option than a candy bar.

2. Eat plenty of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

Next, to a can of tuna, it doesn’t get much easier than an easy to carry a piece of fruit. I always have fruits and vegetables available as snacks and I definitely recommend fresh fruit over the frozen stuff (but once again, frozen fruit is better than a candy bar). Fresh fruit usually contains more nutrients (especially if you pick them yourselves), and in my opinion, they just taste better. Ideally, you’ll have two large servings of fruit and vegetables per day. There are plenty of ways to make vegetables taste good, and they reduce sugar cravings by reducing the insulin spike (and lowering of blood sugar level) that is produced with refined sugar foods. The benefits of fruit and vegetable consumption is endless as they lower blood pressure, reduced the risk of cardiovascular disease, and put off the development of many cancers.

3. Use Spices and Herbs Wisely

Spices and herbs provide you an opportunity to be creative with your food while also giving you plenty of health advantages. They’re low in calories, high in flavor, high in antioxidants, and have many healing properties. Here are a few of my favorites

Mustard - Good in many kinds of sauces and tastes great on meat. Has been known to reduce respiratory issues too.

Cayenne pepper - It helps to adds spicy heat to food and also increases metabolism.

Ginger – It is used in many Asian dishes and also increases metabolism while reducing nausea and the effects of motion sickness.

Garlic – Enhances the flavor of many dishes and has been shown to lower cholesterol and reduce blood pressure.
